About this painting
At the centre of the composition, a large dahlia flower unfolds according to the principle of radial symmetry, with each layer of petals forming a clear, rhythmically ordered volume. The central pink-violet accent dominates the space of the canvas, while the surrounding violet blooms create depth and sustain the overall visual balance. The vertical stems give the composition an internal structure, counterbalancing the mass of the floral forms.
The colour palette is built on nuances of violet, lilac and pink, with gentle transitions of light and shade within each petal. The dark green background is not merely passive — it creates a contrasting foundation that gives the lighter areas of the flowers volume and expressiveness. The brushwork is visible yet controlled: the artist does not dissolve the form into decoration, but preserves the clarity of its structure, emphasising the layered construction of the plant.
The pictorial space is compressed and brought close to the viewer, creating a sense of intimate contact with the subject. The absence of a detailed setting focuses attention on the rhythm of the petals, their modelling through light and the interaction of the colour planes. Each flower has its own character — from half-closed buds to fully opened forms — adding an inner dynamism to the composition.
The work conveys a state of mature bloom — a moment when form and colour reach their greatest fullness. This is not simply a botanical image, but a study of structure and light in which the richness of violet tones and the rhythmic organisation of space create a sense of intensity, depth and the living energy of nature.
